BASC?
Who was that, I don't recall seeing a BASC representative in the programme. Perhaps I fell asleep after all the programme wasn't all that enthralling and didn't say anything that we didn't know. ...
I
thought he was from BASC but I may be wrong - it appeared in sub-title when he was first introduced. But I may have misread it - I was priming cases at the time.
I WAS wrong. Well THAT'S never happened before! :)
I loaded up the BBC iPlayer (link below) and the chap (Derek Stimpson) is from the British Shooting Sports Council.

He's also chairman of the HBSA, I guess the use of BSSC was to carry more weight.

The fact that they (BSSC) seem to carry less weight than NABIS is testament to how poorly represented legal gun owners are by those organisations that claim to be supporting shooting.
If you don't proactively and effectively promote legal firearm ownership then there will be no shooting to support.

One of the statements that really pi$$ed me off was
"He (Edmunds), a white man, used a loophole in the law to import guns that killed black men".
Really? FFS, he was selling guns and ammunition to anybody. It just so happens that the majority of the victims were black .... shot by other black men. So is that Redmund's fault? I think it has more to do with the 'gangsta' culture amongst some of the black community than with the likes of Edmunds. He cashed in on a loophole, but he certainly didn't set out to kill blacks.
Bringing the 'race card' into the programme just makes it a mockery in my eyes, even though a lot of the facts and information being reported were valid.

Well I just shot a mail off to Newswatch venting my distaste of the program and how it portrayed the legal shooters/owners of firearms. Will see what reply I get if any.

I think you may be thinking of the BSSC (British Shooting Sports Council) representative (which I believe was Derek Stimpson)
(EDIT - I answered the question on page 5, I just saw this has already been answered on page 6)

I think many people noticed that... we were talking about the program in my office today and a couple of (non-shooting) people said they wondered why the BBC played the race card...

Just watched it last night and I've never seen so much glossing over, and my dads a painter and decorator!
$2500+air fare+accommodation, yeah no probs(!) And then when they bought the one in the UK i was thinking "Uh-oh, here we go", then the price of that one was £2500

I do not believe for one second that the scrotes that do actually use 'antique' guns are paying that much for one when, in other 'gang' programs modern semi-autos are supposedly available for £300-1000.

I watched this yesterday evening. Did I miss it, or did they not say what percentage of gun crime was committed with antique firearms?
Playing the race card was an extremely cheap shot (pardon the pun), and it was so obvious there was a huge anti-gun bias in the filming and message being put across.
As has been mentioned above, bad people do bad things. If you choose to use an antique firearm without having in on FAC you are breaking the law. More regulation around legal ownership will not prevent gun crime, as funnily enough the crims do not care about regulation.

Has anyone got a link to any of our shooting associations response to this program.? They will obviously have made formal complaints on our behalf, concerning the bias, distortions, half truths, omissions and racial slurs that were prevalent in this piece of journalistic trash.
