Pinguino wrote:FULL compensation I hope! I still have my original receipt and that’s £4.5k the govt. will have to cough up to get there hands on my beloved LR. I hope the totalcost comes back to bite them in the bum. LRs weren't even on the original consultation (Just MARS).
Does anyone know (going back to the last time compensation was paid for an implemented ban) what exactly they will expect to get.? Don’t see why I should hand them a working firearm. Can I strip it down and give to them in pieces? Also my stock, hand-guard and trigger were expensive upgrade options items that I could re-use – so why hand them in ..?
And yes... I think i will spray it a god awful colour too, so they can't perade it around as a DANGEROUS BLACK ASSAULT RIFLE
I suspect the government will roll out the compensation values from the pistol ban and just alter the wording and values a bit .
Option A . A sickening low hand in offer .
Option B . List of guns and equipment values based on retail prices at a certain date . This amount will be roughly 25% off retail price for shooters and plus 25% for dealers . But dealers will have to pay VAT and tax on the compensation .
Accessories like scopes and reloading presses will probably not get compensation .
I hope every handed in rifle is sprayed a nice bright color . This might make the media think twice before publishing pictures .
Option C . Anything not covered by options A or B . These items will require a full valuation from a dealer who specialised in this type of firearm .
The people who dreampt up the last hand in are probably still in the Home Office , so they wont make the same mistakes again . You can bet the list of what you wont get paid for will be longer than the list of what you do get paid for .
As far as a gun being in working order is concerned , its probably going to be down to each police force . Last time Merseyside insisted that every gun handed in by a FAC holder be complete and in working order, even the grips had to be on the gun .

I hope it would cover mags for the uzi types of LR. not like I can stick them in my Glock.
I hope it also goes the other way, that they will accept a gun without stocktube, grip, handguard ect. might chop the barrel down too o0r even mill a slot in it.

Magazines were a big problem in several police forces last time , as they insisted that a magazine had to be with the gun .
If you only had 8 round mag pac or wilson mags for a 1911 , one of them had to be with the gun . So you lost on its extra value unless you could convince whoever valued the gun to include the extra cost of the 8 round mag .

The draft Bill as it currently stands references compensation being payable only for accessories which have no practicable application with firearms which remain lawful. This suggests to me no payment for any reloading equipment, consumables or optics. The devil will be in the published detail once the Bill is enacted. I also have the Uzi variant LR and am confident I will be compensated for the spare magazines. What other section one firearms use those?
I will be attempting to claim for iron sights as my front sight is mounted on a gas block. What other section one firearm has a quasi gas block to accept such a front sight? Will also try to claim for a c-more rail sight as the rear sight integrates with the gas block mounted front sight . Doomed to failure I suspect though.

Military grade? Assault rifles? What utterly biased, deliberately misleading nonsense.
This is what the BBC has become. They're no better than the tabloids/clickbait sites these days. I don't bother with BBC 'news' any more.
And it's not as though they would allo wany of us a full and frank interview because it would be so unsensational as to almost be factual. b******!!!!!
THAT is so out of order

Well for what it's worth (probably nothing) I have made a complaint about this to the BBC.

That'll be S5(1)(a) Firearms Act 1968 up for repeal then?

And here is the BBC's reply to my complaint:
Thank you for contacting us about the BBC News article titled 'Ban on military grade assault rifles dropped by MPs'.
I understand you feel the article is 'sensationalist'.
Although we appreciate your personal feelings about 'evidence' or 'threats', it is important to recognise that the BBC has the responsibility to report on significant developments within Parliament.
This report simply aims to explain that the planned ban on military grade assault rifles has been dropped amid pressure from some Conservative and DUP MPs, and how some MPs have reacted to the news.
The ban itself was initially included in the Offensive Weapons Bill, which introduced new clause 31, 'Offence of hosting a seller on a platform, online third-party reseller or online marketplace'. This can be found here: https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk ... y/CBP-8349 (The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites.)
In addition, the article outlines that 'Conservative MP Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, who put forward the earlier amendment, added the rifles "do not pose a danger to the public".'
Editorial decisions are more of a judgement call, than an exact science, and to this end, we appreciate the feedback that our audience gives us when it's felt something can be improved - it can inform our on-going coverage.
Please be assured that your concerns have been passed forward on a report which will be read by senior BBC management and the teams at BBC News online.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.

They've quoted the wrong clause in their reply. New Clause 31 as voted on Wednesday was not about online selling.
It just proves they do not properly research the subjects they are reporting on.
Muppetry of the highest order
You should point out to them that not only is the original article factually incorrect. Their reply to your complaint is as well.
