Hi,
My renewal application receipt from Hants. Const. included the following paragraph:

"Please note that if you are applying to renew a certificate, that as long as the application has been received prior to the expiry of your certificate, you are not required to lodge your firearm(s) or shotgun(s) with a firearms dealer or take any other action should your renewed certificate not be received by you before it's expiry date. No action will be taken by police where an application has been received prior to the expiry date and the certificate has not been renewed as a result of backlogs in the renewal process".

Which is, IMHO, the best they can do under the circumstances, having had staff reductions. I applied Jan 10th, and it arrived Saturday 17th March. However, they did cash my check PDQ.................

I rang on Tuesday, my file sits on the desk waiting to be processed along with lots of others. The FLO handed it in on 13th March which is about a month after his visit.

At least its going somewhere all be it at a steady pace :?

Did they issue a temporary permit? I take it you did request a temporary permit Hauptman.

S7 certificates allegedly take as long to process as full FAC's and i've never personally seen one (if anyone has ever had one i'd love a gander - with all your personal details removed obviously), although i have heard others, on the internet, claim they have had them. :-P

With that paragraph in writing i'd be a lot happier about keeping my firearms post expiry date, a lot better than the fobbing off over the phone that i got last year

I've had a few over the years for various reasons. The last one was issued to me in January this year when the force covering my area were unable to renew my certificate before it expired despite the forms fully completed being submitted 8 weeks before the FAC expired. Things are so bad in our area that it has become the norm to issue temporary permits often for lengthy periods of time. Contrary to what has been said it takes very little time to issue a temporary permit. The reason that they are not being issued is that the force has to explain to the Home Office and H.M. Inspector of Constabulary why it was necessary to issue a temporary permit and issuing large numbers of permits is seen as an indicator of poor performance.

20S showed me his and it is like a normal FAC in most respects but only one page printed both sides. In fact looking at it made me think if they can issue this why not a full FAC.

If I get a chance later I'll put up a scan of mine but as Ovenpaa says its just like a page from the FAC with your details and a list of all your firearms and max ammo holding

How about the shooting organisations campaign for the abolition of FAC's? Issue instead a card akin to the driving licence photo card which entitles you to the class of fireams you possess, listed on the reverse like the category of vehicles?

Licence the individual, not the guns. The police could still hold a list of the guns you possess and you could still be obliged to inform them when you sell or buy. Simpler for everyone not having to constantly get FAC's varied. How many fantastic impulse buys have you missed out on because of bloody FACs?

I'm still really pi$$ed about missing that .308 target Rubin on here......!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
