We suspect we may have over-estimated ooman intelligence. Some of you have put forward useful ideas and valid criticisms, for which we are most grateful. It seems the Savage action is beginning to pull ahead of the pack at the moment. Perhaps the next issue to address is which of the calibres we would like to fire are actually possible with a single action.

Design by committee? No, far from it. What we are actually doing is attempting to trawl the depths of the collected intelligentsia ballisticum available on this forum. Perhaps at times it may seem that we are casting our net in very shallow water but we intend to persevere, throw the sprats back and then make a decision based on the worthier catches...

You started by saying you wanted a 'target rifle' - then you say you want a magazine - and you still haven't said what you want it for! ...surely that is the first decision before any other...and would be the 'intelligent' thing to do.

We want a rifle, with interchangeable barrels to facilitate the firing of different calibre bullets from a common receiver, action and stock. We want the rifle to be magazine fed, ideally from a 10 round magazine. We plan to use it at 300, 600 and 1000 yards. It will be based on a 7.62x51 (.308) action, and it is desirable that it can fire calibres greater and lesser than that.

My peanut brain gets that - but having a magazine will limit some of your other options...so is it necessary?...do you intend to only shoot precision/slow fire, or do you also want to shoot snaps and McQueens type courses of fire?

We don't do slow and precise. We try to do reasonably fast and adequately accurate.

Build a 260 rem on a 700 action with a badger kit for mags (see what I did there?) and then put it in the stock of your choice and then just get on with having at targets from muzzle to 1200 yds or more , simples !

Want a different calibre either delete and insert accordingly above or build another rifle (you can never have too many you know!)
