we would wish to consider any firearm which employs a Manually Actuated Release System capable of achieving a similar rate of fire.

that could be scary have they seen some cowboy action shooting .semi auto shotguns, pump guns , . that could be an endless list

i can empty 10 rounds out of my lever gun much faster than i could out of my 9mm lever release.

I think it's the fact lever release and MARS are now rifle cartridges that is the issue that scares them. I doubt I'd be able (or at least be willing to again after a first attempt) to empty a 30-30 or 45-70 levergun as fast as my 44

You can't.......you meant to say was it takes an age to fire 10 rounds from your lever gun! ;)

Rate of fire with my straight pull rifles is around 5 rounds an hour! :p ;)

I know that in the real world it shouldn't matter but it may be a case that all the videos on YouTube etc showing how fast MARS and lever release rifles can shoot hasn't helped matters as you never know what the powers that be are watching and they could well have attracted the wrong sort of interest.

I have to agree... someone saying that lever release are no faster than a lever action, just means they'll consider taking the lever actions too...

But saying that, a nice wood and steel lever action isn't as scary to the sheeple as a black rifle is..

As usual this type of discussion misses the point, the key issue that needs tackling with the HO is what actually is the risk of legally held firearms falling into the wrong hands and what threat that might generate especially in relation to the threat caused by acquisition of illegal firearms on the illegal market, the loss of legally held firearms by the military and police and all the other opportunities for causing atrocities like vehicles, axes, knives and the like.

The HO need to be robustly challenged about the proportionality of looking at legally held firearms as a danger in comparison to other potential threats, they need to be outed that the only reason for doing this is for an easy claim to be making the community safer whilst avoiding the real threat and issue of illegally held and used threats.

The fundamentals of why they are doing this needs to be addressed in order for there to be any chance of stopping their irresponsible and bad legislation making.

goodjob...... this is spot on.

I would imagine that stealing any firearm from a FAC holder would be way down a terrorists list when procuring weapons with which to carry out terrorist acts.....not when they could be aquired far easier, and without drawing undue attention, on the black market!!!.

I wasn't a FAC holder at the time but I doubt that the IRA, for example, were breaking into peoples homes and stealing legally held firearms and they were far more sophisticated and organised than the terrorists we've had so far seem to be!.

In the letter to my MP, I mentioned that the government should be spending more on the Uk Border Force stopping illegal, full auto, weapons entering the country, rather than picking on law-abiding citizens.

Whilst I agree fully with the sentiment of the last seven words, I wouldn't agree with the rest. There is a massive amount of effort going into stopping illegal imports. (It is the police in the form of the National Crime Agency and MI5 that lead here and have the vital intelligence resources and skills, not the UK Border Force.) The number of seizures and arrests over the last three or four years is really impressive. Why do you think Islamic fundamentalist terrorists are resorting to extremely risky (to themselves) bathtub explosives and running people down with hired SUVs?

I agree with Laurie’s point, the NCA do a great job and have been very successful in preventing illegal firearms entering the country, however another reason for the extremists using alternative methods is because FAC holders take extreme measures to safe guard their firearms and that’s the whole point. There is no significant risk to justify the outlined measures, it a total waste of tax payers money.
