Essex are doing checks on anyone who has come to their attention in the last 15 years or anyone at the address ,they have full details of any incident (even if it did not result in prosecution or a caution) they know your health status and go through a question session which includes do you shoot live things and how much do you drink ..
So maybe its going to happen countrywide ....

Here's the BASC guidance on visits by the Police. It's very interesting reading, if fact it should be compulsory for all FAC/SGC holders and their partners IMO. It also deals with seizure of firearms by the Police.

First line of that and Jackman's last post seems to clear up what happened here ... though it's still a mystery as to why the counter-terror branch have muscled in on the FLD's patch.

Oh well. Good luck with it.

Further to this thread, this article seems both timely and relevant: http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/answers/leg ... ield-37842

Man had his certificates revoked and narrowly avoided a police prosecution - all because he took a picture of his neighbour sitting next to his dismantled rifle in his kitchen.

Wow, that's a hard lesson. This is the scary part - "permitting unauthorised access to his firearm." What is permitted and what isn't?
Not only did the neighbour forward the photograph to an associate of his who was, at the time, of particular interest to the regional crime squad, but he also accompanied it with a text message that was construed by the police (although unintelligible to me) as sufficiently ambiguous to bring Dave to their attention. Dave was interviewed under caution for allegedly permitting unauthorised access to his firearm, at the conclusion of which he was offered a police caution.

Interesting indeed.

So the specialist firearms law solicitor who defends this guy suggests that certificate holders need to be 'discrete' - there's that word again!

The police were sufficiently concerned about the prospect of Dave 'advertising' the fact that he had guns at his home (by loosing-off photos into the ether) that they tried to remove his certificate at considerable inconvenience and potential cost to him. Who'd have thought eh!

Well fudge me! what a joke!?!

So this geezers neighbour/mate comes over early while he's still got the gun in bits on the kitchen table trying to fix the trigger. Neightbour gets excited and asks for a photo of himself with aforementioned pile of bits which this bloke agrees to. Next thing he's up before the beak classed as a danger to the public!?!?

nah! - must have totally misread that article. Will re-read it later after tea, I'm sure it'll all make sense then.
