Anyone got opinions on / experience of the Mossberg MVP range ?

I've read a couple of good reviews - for a relatively entry-level package the MVP offers quite a lot, such as various stock options and even the MDT LSS aluminium chassis system as a factory option.

I've fired a couple of the MVP models, and, personally, I wouldn't carry them in the field. They're relatively heavy, and I didn't find that either of the stocks I used shouldered smoothly or allowed for easy, rapid target acquisition. Fired from a bench, though, they were accurate and cycled very nicely. If you're thinking of a Mossberg, take a look at the Patriot - nice rifle. Just my 2-cents. :)

Well oomans, we bought a nice Zoli combination gun (9.3x74 + 12 bore) for hunting sabre tooth piggies but we're still torn about a rifle for hunting Bambi. We like the thought of a nice traditional BSA CF2 Stutzen as recommended by Dromia, but a Merkel Helix, Bergara or Strasser switch barrel keeps intruding on our thoughts too...

I started my stalking career in 1986 with a CF2 Stutzen in .243 - not a bad rifle all in, but they need a bit of fettling to get them to shoot properly. Post fettling with a good scope in good mounts, this could be a good combination, but it wouldn't be my choice - I off-loaded mine circa 1990.

I've used a switch-barrel rifle since 1988 (Sauer) - they work so damned well. I would happily use Merkel or Strasser, possibly Bergara, but not Blaser under any circumstances. I'm not going to go into any detail about why I dislike Blaser - you loves 'em or you 'ates 'em, I 'ate 'em with a passion.
