On my exploration of the term "Mackem" last night I came across some info for the term "Geordie". I never realised that a Geordie was anyone from Newcastle down to Durham.
I always thought The Geordies were from Newcastle only so I learnt there and the term Geordie apparently comes from the miners lamps used in days gone by. There were Davey lamps and Geordie lamps and the Geordie name stuck. If it hadnt everyone up there in wye aye land would now be called Daveys.
In my search for the Mackem explanation I came across some images of chimpanzee's wearing red and white stripey shirts which I take it are footy shirts? Im not a footy person so this is an educated guess as further images showed non chimpanzee's wearing the same shirts at footy matches, yes, my middle names Sherlock

So.........whats with the chimps in stripey shirts?

This seems to have veered off hating, sorry, discussing Mr Squires so I apologise for that.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Mackem and geordie rivalry but then most adults are not offended and just roll with it. No snowflakes here.
I wish I could stay so calm with Squires and the fees consultation!

Never seen Newcastle players in red & white before. Must have been for Comic Relief.

The miners lamp explanation is too recent.
Look back to English civil war days. Newcastle stayed loyal to King George = Georgies Men, ends up as Geordies...
