Oh Christ, not Callum Long-Collins again. Is there anything he won't poke his nose into as the self appointed, self serving, voice and saviour of shooting?

The Charities Commission involvement is however interesting.

Whilst I have little time for the presenter I am so pleased that finally the charity commissioners have got involved, the NRA has for too long not allowed its self to be held to account.

Their findings also validate many of the criticisms of the NRA that have been made on here and elsewhere over the years, obviously they must have been seen as falling into the NRA's "disrespectful" category for us to have received the NRA's vilification over the years.

Personally after over thirty years of NRA membership I think the issues of honesty, humility and transparency will be an institutional change that the NRA will find hard to implement as old ingrained defensive habits die hard.

The charity commissioners findings gives me no pleasure but it is good to see that the NRA critics over the years have now been vindicated, I wonder how the NRA is swallowing this "disrespectful" report and how if in any way it will change the NRA's arrogant and cynical behaviour so that ultimately they start benefiting gun ownership and shooting nationally which is what we desperately need from them in these troubled times.

But on the bright side, no claims of child abuse ( save the children etc) or begging for taxpayer handouts for overly plush accomodation ( kids co.) or sudden closure due to “irregularities” ( john townsend trust - deaf school margate)

Being the charity scandals that instantly spring to mind, then you have the hounding of donors by the corporate fund raisers used by some of the big charities and their dubious activities.

In the wider world the nra comes out pretty well, given the improvements in finances etc over the past few years , maybe there are plans to address the bisley centric nature of the nra and concerns will be addressed.

I too am suspicious of this chap but on this occasion he does make some very good points. The charity commission report which has been posted elsewhere on the internet makes very interesting reading and unfortunately makes some quite damming comments concerning the management and running of the NRA.

I wouldn't say that the NRA "comes out pretty well" at all.
As to improvement in finances over the past few years that would soon change should the charity commission not be satisfied that their demmands are not met and withdraw charity registration. Especially if monies paid out such as in the form of giftaid rebates over say the last 6 years were then recovered.
