“Thank you for your recent email regarding the consultation on offensive and dangerous weapons.
It is my understanding that Ministers have said that in proposing to prohibit the ownership of .50 calibre 'materiel destruction' rifles of a type that the potential range and penetration of these weapons are such that they are a significant risk if they, or the ammunition, were to fall into the wrong hands, which is why it has proposed that they no longer be allowed for civilian use.
That being said, I do understand your concerns around the points you've raised on the way in which the wording of the consultation is handled, so I have forwarded your views onto the Home Secretary to view as part of the consultation, but I would also encourage you to respond to the consultation directly.
I hope that is helpful in the meantime.
Best wishes”
Unless your MP is Trudy Harrison, that's a standard reply fed to MP's from somewhere in the Home office, as my reply from her landed in the post this morning & is word for word identical to the above. Funny that, as I have a copy of my email to her stating I had already resdponded to the consultation.
"Representative Democracy" may arse.
I'll upload a copy of my letter from her tomorrow or Sunday.

Even after the blatant shafting the "national" bodies gave the pistol owners nothing changed with them.
OK, so let's look at putting together an organisation that IS representative of UK shooters as a whole.
I'm retiring early, so will have time available to work at this should someone with more political savvy get the ball rolling.
If nothing else, it might make the moribund & unrepresentative upper echelons of the NRA & BASC sit up & take notice (I wish...).

Its not just "another organisation " we need " .
We need an organisation that does not have charitable status .
We need an organisation that has the funds to employ proper PR firms(spin doctors) and lobbying companies .
We need an organisation that will act like attack dogs every time there is an attempt to put unreasonable restrictions on any section of the shooting community .
In theory we already have such an organisation , in practice just a quick look at the BSSC website shows how badly it is failing .
Without a proper shooting organisation , I think shooting as we know it in the UK has no real long term future .

I think you're looking at a political party that speaks for the rights of shooters, some sort of lobbying group.

I got a different and more relevant response from Nick Gibb

Perhaps he'll be judged as not worth looking into and continue his career as Keith Vaz has, nothing proven but not too sure the alleged behaviour suits them to "high office".
