Diminishing MOD range access is a real issue for all shooters as there isn't the full bore and HME, medium to long range private range capacity and spread of locations to take up the slack.

I wasn't suggesting everyone drives to Dorset every time they want to use there .50 but was making the point that they can't just lose the mod ranges and expect it to go away.

There a plenty of shooters who travel much further than the length of the UK to shoot, distance alone won't kill it.

Cost can't be that much of an issue either given how expensive they are to shoot.

Some will, some won't so it will reduce the 50/HME owner numbers thus making them even more of a minority and cost less when the ban does come in.

Whatever the options available stopping access to MOD ranges for 50 cal/HME shooters is not good news to them or the rest of the gun owning constituency, however you choose to paint it.

shooting 50 cal at 100yrds is a bit wasteful in my eyes TBH

as Dromia has stated previously, the issue with Police, seem to only affect legally held firearms, they seem confident with the ilegally held ones. they can't face off against our lever releases but can face ilegal semi autos. In addition to the body armour defeat question and most rifles being able to penetrate, even if they couldn't penetrate, there is still an awful lot of body availiable.

I'm surprised they don't look at banning all guns as we have higher skill than their officers, and so offer a higher threat.

That is no doubt the goal to which this is but a stepping stone.

This is more about testing how we as a community respond to such chipping away attacks than about making people safer.

We give into this with out a public ruckus then the HO will have its spiteful way with the rest of us in due course.

I think Dromia has it sussed, the more and more this progresses with the information being teased out of the HO by the various parties that have had meetings with them this is starting to look like a Government conspiracy (and I don't readily subscribe to conspiracy theories). The consultation (however badly put together) appears to be a fishing exercise to see what the anti-gun establishment can get away with before they start eroding even more firearms from the permitted list. The sudden MOD announcement as no justification other than they have been told to do it by the powers that be as the consultation is just that a consultation. It is not legislative yet so why implement a ban of MOD range use? Doesn't make any sense other than to put further pressure on legal FAC holders.

I have written to the HO, my MP, NRA and BASC and all have come back with nothing much more than "holding" emails. I don't think it is a "fait accompli" yet but unless the shooting organisations and the general shooting fraternity get there act together it may well be. The apparent complacency shown by BASC and the NRA beggars belief as a weekly update of what they are doing to show their memberships they are fighting our corner (or not) would be a start however late in the day.

I think the same when I hear of people running up special loads and special cast lead projectiles and shooting historic service rifles on gallery ranges at 25 yards etc

Nothing wrong with that, it allows you to shoot the rifle more often. For example, I shoot my M1 carbine a lot more frequently at my gallery range than 100m+ ranges as my gallery range is open weeknights and is a lot closer than other ranges I go to.

We can shoot .50 (with a mod) but that’s hardky the point, as has been said,100m is a little pointless. This is an outrageous way to change the law without due process.

So limit the places it can be shot and then make them similar to pistols (stored on site) but with the Brocock approach then no compensation and far fewer shooters ...
