It was only a year or so ago that the HO pushed for the police to be the sole consulted party in respect of HO guidance (with a loss of court appeal on refusal / revocation etc.).
So, every force moves to comply with the guidelines (not actual law, but adopted as such)... which in effect are set by the police with no real course of appeal. Basically, the fox sets the rules for the running of the hen house... and if you don't like it then you can appeal to the (wait for it)... the fox!
According to a number of MP replies as above, it would appear as though the HO have already determined the outcome regardless of (sham) consultation.
Any ideas on how to defeat the HO anyone???

Nor do the rights of ordinary citizens, no matter how many.

And therein lies the issue.
For me, it's not about the money... It's about the state having the audacity to ride roughshod over my rights to peaceful enjoyment of my property. I pose no risk to anyone, have s.5 levels of security and just want to enjoy my possessions to the end of my days. I have made many sacrifices for those rights in my life on behalf of HMG and continue to do so...
Removal of property is a judicial process, almost always on proof of wrongdoing by way of order in court. Except for firearms... and I struggle to think of any other.
It also shouldn't matter if someone has chosen to do something terrible with one particular class of firearm. The wrongs of one (a criminal act) should not be used as an excuse to destroy the rights of many others. It is a duty of government to protect those rights.
I actually watched Nick Hurd last night on TV over another matter (policing precept aka taxation by the back door / stealth tax) and he came across as a decent man. That said, I cannot accept being shafted yet again for no wrong that I have done - there is no justice in that.

This is not about justice, it is about appeasing the public who at the end of the day are the voters getting people elected.
Only thing is, the majority of the public are either not aware or not interested in firearms owners. I wonder why the Government thinks there is a threat -is this based on the terrorism attacks and shooters being regarded as part of that?

That would raise £270m, while £130m for national priorities, such as firearms, would come from central government.
Firearms - a national priority. How does that work? Because the national priority can't be issuing of certificates, mine expired end of Nov...

Have a read of this:

Apologies if it's been posted before, (and it's a bit long, and written by a couple of septics), but it's worth reading if you're interested in the future of shooting as a sport (and civil liberties in general) in the UK.

Nope, they are the same politicians who are following a long term (100+) year plan to disarm the public.
The same politicians who are making brexit a farce in the hope that they can stop it as the sheep voted against the long term plan.
Never assume your political representative has any of your interests in mind.
Doesn't matter what it costs, they will do what they want...

Is it the politicians or police who are pushing this, or maybe both.
