Re: New laws coming?
Based on the press statements today, ahead of tomorrow’s release of the the Government’s Serious Violence Strategy there are further prohibitions to follow.
Might sound defeatist but my concern will be ensuring the scope of any compensation includes accessories like 1997. I have a lot of money tied up in such items impacted.

Re: New laws coming?
From the Indi today
"New legislation, to be brought forward within weeks, will also make it illegal to possess zombie knives and knuckledusters in private – or any knife on further education premises. Rapid firing rifles will be banned and the legal definition for threatening someone with an offensive weapon changed to make prosecutions easier."
So looks like they slipped it in.
Am I the only one who wonders why this recent hype in the press around violent crime in London has all of a sudden become front page news.
Very, very sus if you ask me.

Re: New laws coming?
I have talked to a number of Met colleagues over the last few days... all of whom raise an eyebrow as to why this is suddenly front page news. One said that stabbings are now so common place that many never even hit the press.
Let us not forget that these are tragic circumstances with various causation factors - police numbers, a significant reduction in stop and search, turf wars driven by criminality and drugs and county lines supply with many of those involved placing little value on life as a result of socio or background status.
On the subject of safe streets, I would like to see any politician walk down some of the borough high streets or back roads with their families (without some sort of protection)...
No doubt various corporate comms departments have been building to such a release with media strategy galore...
It appears as though the law abiding firearms owner will once again be thrown to the slaughter out of expediency and political desperation. Shame on all concerned.

Re: New laws coming?
BooBoo, it's most likely made front page news because it makes it look like the Gov are using this as a response to all the knife stabbings which have happened in London recently. They know that MP's will most likely approve this bill if it will reduce the number of stabbings in London but it looks like the firearms bit has been put in through the backdoor despite the efforts of FCSA negotiations/discussions.

And when knife crime fails to significantly go down (or go down at all) because anyone with an iota of common sense knows that if you can barely keep prisoners from fashioning sharp implements/weapons in a supposedly secure environment, what chance do you have with these same people on the outside(?) I wonder what they'll blame next - I personally don't care about owning anything more than kitchen knives but it speaks volumes about their "thinking". Bump stocks? In regards to the UK? Really? Obviously taking advantage of another newly acquired anti-gun buzzword for the uninformed following the Vegas shooting, let's link it to the UK somehow because it's an issue here too.... Oh fu@k off.
Re: New laws coming?
And are our associations (NRA, BASC, UKPSA, SAGBNI, GTA) going to do anything to fight this?
Surely this is the time for them to pool their funds and resources to challenge any ban in the courts? Otherwise this will only be the first of many future bans based on "what if".

Comment in todays Sunday Mirror ............"And after the horrors we have seen in the US , banning rapid fire rifles from gun clubs will meet little opposition "
Re: New laws coming?
Do they mean MARS or .22 as well

Re: New laws coming?
At the time of the consultation the Home Office indicated 22 rimfire was not in scope. We will only fully understand how “rapid fire” and “certain powerful” rifles are defined when the white paper is published.Junge wrote:Do they mean MARS or .22 as well

Again without sounding defeatist, for me personally it is about ensuring I am compensated for all accessories, etc in a similar fashion to the 1997 Act.
