I have a Remington 700 VSSF in my cabinet with the Mk1 spider web H&S stock. I am yet to do much with it but following a recent thread elsewhere, I'm wondering if a Tikka T3 would be a more accurate rifle?

I'm aware of all the advantages of the R700 platform but there seems to be a growing market in Tikka parts. The rifle was always going to end up as a Tactical/McQueens style build rather than a target rifle and I can't get away from the apparent advantage of the Tikka action appearing to have more metal around it than the Remington. It is also more pleasing to the eye than the Remington..

What to FBUKers think? Is it worth swapping the Rem for a Tikka Varmint?

After seeing testing of various rifle (bullet stuck up barrel and one shot into it!) I would not touch a Remm 700 ever again!
The Tikka is a fabulous gun (almost as good as a Sako) accurate and strong - no contest in my mind.

I have had a T3, now have an M65, a 595 and a Rem700 VSF in 22-250. The rem700 just doesn't compare.

If buying 2nd hand, get a worn Sako75 and re-barrel it to your choice. I was offered a pristine Sako 75 synthetic, chambered in 30-06 the other week by an old stalker. He'd bought it about a decade ago to replace his Parker Hale but couldn't get on with the 'new fangled' gun, so it had sat in his cabinet practically unfired. Now that he's retiring, all he asked was £400. Oh how i wept for some money and a vacant slot!

Tikka every time, no comparrison. The Tikka will shoot like a good un straight out of the box unlike the Remington where you will need to spend a fortune before you are satisfied. Have a look for a god second hand Sako also, you won't be disapointed.

I need to be careful with my words as I have a Remington TMR1 in .22/250 for sale.

At the time I had that built, the new-fangled T3 was still a bit of a teething problem with that strange recoil "lug" arrangement, no "varmint" option and no after-market parts to speak of. I had a hole burning in my pocket for a new (as opposed to s/h) rifle and I knew that what I wanted was a dedicated fox calibre truck gun. I'd considered a s/h Sako TRG rebarrel but needed it so couldn't wait for one to appear: I should have looked further into buying one new and simply getting it rebarrelled. I almost bought a RPA and sometimes wonder why I didn't.

The shot out M55 Supersporter was rebarelled in 6BR and is probably my fave rifle, leaving me with an M65 Supersporter in .308 and an M590 Custome Deluxe in 243. There's also a Sako Finnfire Range .22

Undoubtedly the pre-Beretta takeover M-actioned rifles were the best of the bunch with sewing machine tolerances. The T3? Honestly I've not handled one so I can say bu the range of options is growing...

Have to agree with the guys, Tikka every time. I have two and they are cracking rifles. Saying that though I also have a Remmy 700 in 22-250 and it's accurate as hell as well, mind you I have had it a fair few years.
