Which Club/Association?

NRA, BSCA, CPSA, UKPSA... the list seems endless and they appear to cater for different disciplines.
Is there an 'umbrella' organisation I could/should join?

What kind of shooting do you take part in and do you ever intend to shoot at Bisley?

Target with a view to Practical Rifle/Shotgun and eventually
maybe Med/Large conservational Game
if I can win over my wife's conscience.
Would definitely like to hit Bisley in the future but, FFS, their rules for membership... talk about jumping through hoops!

If you are going to shoot Target Rifle and shoot it at Bisley then I would recommend the NRA. You might want to consider others for the other shooting you do. If you shoot at Bisley with club then NRA membership shouldn't be too hard to get. The Old Sargent's Mess is a good Bisley based club.

need to shoot at Bisley to become member of NRA?
At this time, I'm simply looking for a 'broad-brush' association. BASC seems (to me) a bit 'countryside' and 'pedestrian' to me though.

To enter comps at Bisley you pay approx £6 non NRA members fee for each one which adds up over a year. NRA membership really makes sense if you want to pop down and do PSG / PR / CSR etc.

No, you do not need to shoot at Bisley to join the NRA. By joining the NRA you will be insured (you and your equipment, also liability) and support an organisation that frankly deserves it and when you finally go there to shoot you will realise why you are a member.
It is a fantastic place steeped in history, it has in the past been run by less than competent people however we are all hoping that all that will change with the new management. Heather and Iain on FB are working for the NRA and if you have any questions please ask, I am sure they will answer if they spot your question. Alternatively PM them.

Curious that being a member of HM Forces requires you to have two referees (and that an APWT is up to date) but civilians don't appear to need to jump through said hoops.
I think I'll just apply as 'Mr'...

No you don't need to shoot at Bisley to be a member of the NRA, equally you don't have to be a member of the NRA to shoot at Bisley just a member of a club affiliated to the NRA. I'm a big fan of the NRA but I'm not sure I would recommend them if you don't shoot at Bisley. As for the other organizations I can't advise as I have no knowledge of them. Others on this site do know about them and will be along soon!
