Spent the evening in the reloading place God I love it in there. Any way I was finishing off some reloading stuff for a 6.5x55 thingy. After I finished what I was doing I sat down in my chill out chair and thought right I can go and join her indoors or find some thing else to do reloading wise.
So I jumped out of my chair grabbed a mouse and looked up cast re loading data for the 7.62x39 by the end of the evening I had managed to load about fifty rounds using a bag of cast boolits that I found lying about apparently I bought these off Dodgyrog ages ago.
Any way I better go show my face and be polite to her that must be obeyed because I am shooting all day to morrow.I will fill you in with the details later.

Any body got any recipes for 7.62x39 I would appreciate your input. Cheers.

I need a new trimmer. (If I say it enough times I might eventually convince my self that I can justify buying a Wilson trimmer.)

How does pawloaded 7.62x39 compare with milsurp ammo for cost? We're sure it's accurate, but can it compete with rounds bought at £23 / 100 for cost?

No body in there right mind is going to swop a Wilson trimmer for a bucket full of old Lee trimmers. Dear oh dear. :cool2:

It depends. Were I live off the shelf ammo is not available the nearest supplier is Henry Kranks in Leeds about a two hour drive away. Most of the cheap stuff I have seen is steel cased and is not reloadable. I bought 100 brass cases. I then purchased a couple of hundred cast boolits from Dodgy rog can not remember how much they were but they were not expensive.
I have moulds for this calibre so I can cast the boolits my self.
Any way I only use this rifle mainly at 25yards that's why I bought it its just a fun plinker the furthest I will shoot it is probably 100yads.
I loaded the cases with 4grains of Unique and a cast boolit.
I also loaded up thirty rounds with 14grains of 2400 using the same cast boolit. At the range at 25yards they were shooting about a foot high and to the right of the target once I adjusted they were on target. Not the most accurate of rounds but good cheap fun and that's all that counts in my book. tongueout

Just reading your post with interest as I am looking to download the 7.62x39 for indoor use, I noticed you used 4 grains, is there a minimum safe amount and did you use a chrono to check the velocity etc as my range has certain figures to keep within.

I suggest that you read "Cast Bullet Loads for Military Rifles" lodged in the library.

When I brought in the use of reduced load cast boolits in full bore rifle to my indoor 25 yrd club I introduced a chrono check with signed off paperwork to provide and audit trail of what is being used to demonstrate that the loads are within the limits of the range certificate and to encourage safe handloading.

It was interesting to note that after introducing this how many pistol calibre loads (factory and handload) hitherto deemed acceptable were over the range limits in ft/lbs.

Yes that's an interesting read and it also came up on a google search. My range actually allows jacketed ammo so I'm thinking of pulling milsurp stuff and downloading it as I did when testing my .30 M1 Carbine rounds.
