I have seen and am thinking of buying an Enfield P14 7.62mm with Target stock.

Has anyone any experience with these?

1. Are they any good?
2. What sort of money should I be expecting to part with?

I'm thinking of giving it a refurb, stock/action and sights and then sell it on, is it going to be worth it?

Anyone with any experience with these rifles your help is muchly appreciated.

1. Define good. They made good enough club rifles.
2. I wouldn't part with more than £250-350 of my money for one! but I am Scots with short arms & deep pockets. smile2

1. As a club gun for ab initio beginners, yes. For anything else, no, they're not competitive as target rifles.
2. £250 max really, unless it's got a brand new stock on it or something.

By "refurb" do you mean as a target rifle or do you mean putting it back into service configuration? I daresay it'll probably be worth more as the latter than the former.

I was thinking as a starter target rifle.
I may be getting it super cheap so selling it on for £200 sounds good to me.

We have two P14s, and a third one, a rather special one, on the way.

Our first is a 7.62x51 tsrget conversion: heavy hammer forged barrel, Anshutz style target stock and Parker Hale sights. It cost us £120 and is more accurate at 300 and 600 yards than we are.

Our second is a standard .303 Winchester in excellent condition. We paid £300 for it and consider it to be well worth every penny.

The P14s are an absolute bargain for anyone starting out in target shooting. You should be able to find one with a decent Enfield Barrel and a PH sight for as little as GBP 100 (in fact, these days many are scrapped because the barrel and sight are worth twice as much as the complete rifle!).

7.62mm P14s are probably fine for about 80% of typical mixed-rifle club shooters, and I find they are also enough to make respectable scores in a target club.

They are not worth trying to "improve & sell on". The classic club rifle conversions (cut-back military stock with original volley sights and good markings, Enfield barrel, PH matchmaker & PH5B) do get bought by Enfield collector/shooters, but P14s in any other configuration are only worth the eBay price of the parts. Often these rifles, stripped of sights, can be had for scrap value.

I saw one of these being shot on Sunday at Bisley, can you fit a scope on these and was there an official model for this rifle.

Yes, ooman, there was. They were often issued as sniper rifles in preference to SMLEs in WW1.

I've got one that's been butchered by fitting a scope; it's had the 'ears' milled down a little; still got original rearsight & PH target rearsight and scope blocks. Might be willing to part with it.
