Scope alignment question

I recently got a Besonder optisch (8-32x50) for long range .22 - The only other scopes I have are on my gallery rifles, which were zero'd in by trial and error at 25 yards and are rarely adjusted - With this one I want to be able to adjust for all changes in elevation and windage.
Happily, using the scope isn't as complicated as I thought it would be; as the turrets are clearly marked and as long as I think in minutes and not inches, then it's no different than using TR aperture sights - However having zeroed the turrets I've discovered a small problem...
...I zeroed it at 25 yards, and the windage zero is approximately central, so I've got plenty of adjustment left and right - But when I zeroed the elevation it is already near the top of its adjustment range - There are only enough minutes left to get me up to 100 yards...
...Even with the elevation zeroed (with the turret all the way to the bottom) at 50 yards (minimum needed) there will only just be enough adjustment on the scope to make the 70+ minute (!) adjustment to 300 yards.
So; What is the process for mounting/aligning the scope so the it is zeroed with the elevation turret in its lowest position? ...Or, would it be simpler to just use the mil-dots?
