After much fettling, fiddling and waiting for bits to arrive, my new rifle is now built up and ready for the range:

The spec is:

26" barrelled Remington 700 VSSF in .308win
Leupold VX-iii 8.5-25x50
Third Eye Tactical 10MOA base and double rings.

My current plan is to take it up to the range at the weekend and get it roughly zeroed, then see if there are any other things that need to be done to it before the next club long range shoot.

Whatever happens, I'm really happy with it.

Roughly zero'd??
Ya need SimG or Blackstuff for that - it's what them speshulise in!!

OR

Get the rifle on a firm rest.
Remove the bolt.
Look through the bore at a distant, distinctive, small object.
keeping the gun steady, click the scope crosshair so that it is also aligned on the object that you had centred in the barrel.
Double check that the gun has not moved & that the scope is aligned to the centre of the bore
Triple check it
....you'll be on roughly, may save you a few rounds

That'll be £20 consultation fee please

Save another couple of rounds by having reticle a few inches under whatever you have visable in boresight. To allow for bullet drop and distance from scope to bore.
