Just in the process of joining a new club, which means I can get more shooting done (yay!)

Anyway, I'll finally be able to do some medium range stuff and I have a .223/5.56 slot begging to be filled. I can see some variations going in soon for other stuff too, but that's another story!

I'm happy to buy new or s/h, budget would ideally be under 1k excluding optics. I like black guns, rather than wood stocks. Happy to also do some stock swapping/mods.

I'd love to hear some suggestions, current thinking is the following:

SA vz.58
Bradley arms AR (above budget) but could also do some CSR with it too
Remington 700 of some description - can change stock later, loads of options, not sure of the feasibility of CSR type comps with a bolt gun though.

Any other ideas?

Tikka in synthetic stock with blued barrel? Moderately black.

Tikka T3 1 in 8 twist. Far far better than the Remington 700! And an increasing number of after market parts!

The Tikka is a good suggestion but, beggin' your pardon ooman, .223 / 5.56 is short range stuff in our opinion.

I only shoot out to 25 yards at the moment, so that's short range to me

I'm referring to distances upto about 300metres or there abouts, I guess that's technically still short range up to 600m, 600-1000 medium and 1000+ long? You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge, I only shoot PSG and minirifle at the moment!

I'll look at the tikka...

well you did ask razz Steyr AUG will shoot out to 600 out of the box, and will grow any muscles involved in trigger operation to astounding size tongueout

With the fast twist tikka you can launch some pretty high BC bullets to reach out there

Tikkas are well made too, handcrafted by trolls in Finland we believe. Their stainless steel barrels are up there with the best of them...

Yep both my t3's are.25-.5moa and are very unfussy

There are a lot of successful CSR and PR shooters with bolt guns. Provided the gun has a detachable 10 or 20 round magazine it's all you need to compete.
