I'm looking at options for a new (second hand) rifle and I was wondering if anyone here has got any experience with a Ruger No1 rifle? I've read some articles on the No1 and most said accuracy was good but some rifles could have poor accuracy (fixable) due to the way the fore end was attached to the rifle.

Just looking for some first hand experience and knowledge about the rifle and its quirks.

I'm thinking about one in 22-250, subject to variation.

I had one, in stainless, in...... .22-250!

The gun was beautifully made and very accurate, but I got rid of it for only one reason, the caliber! I should have got it in .223, .243 or well, anythingf else. .22-250 I found to be a nasty cartridge. I can't really explain it but it was horrible. The blast, the noise, the inefficient use of powder..... In short, everything. I currently have a 7mm-08 that I drive light bullets, fast with. It has a muzzle brake and even this gun doesn't get as many complaints on the line as the Ruger did!

I'll have another in a flash. I loved the gun...... but hated that cartridge!

I have always struggled to get the 22-250 to shoot reloaded ammo well!

Yeah I found that as well, when I first got my Remmy 22-250 many years ago I tried factory ammo through it and it just never liked it. These days I shoot a Nosler 50grn ballistic tipped bullet behind 37Grns of H380 and CCI BR2 primer, it'll knock down prairie dogs out to distance no problem and it does a fine job on coyotes as well.

Thanks for the feed back. I'm still just looking at the moment (variation went in this morning) but the Ruger is looking like a good bet. I also fancy a Savage but it really depends on cost (under £400 ideally) and on the rifle/ammunition being something different - I don't want 223 Remington!

I don't have much experience with the 22-250 but it sounds like my sort of challenge! clapclap

Also, I can't see the muzzle blast being much of a problem not compared to my Steyr (M95/30) with Bulgarian surplus! tongueout

Been looking, but can't find any rifles I like.
