I've just sold my .223 Remington 700 and would like to swap it for a .223 AR15 upper receiver for my .22LR CMMG.

What should I put on the variation form in ways of the action? Straight pull upper for AR15 in .223/5.56? Conversion kit .223/5.56?

Also where is the best place to get an upper from? Is it possible to build your own once I have a registered upper receiver and barrel?

Thanks

The best course of action might to phone Mr Plod and ask what he suggests that you call it...

Already spoke to Wilts firearms department, the lady had no idea what I was on about. Said I'd have to pay a £26 fee if its a barrel and receiver (didn't mention the bolt though).

If you have just sold a rifle, then you are requiring a 1 for 1 variation and no fee ought to be payable. You should only need to pay a fee if you are increasing the total number of your firearms, not just swapping an old one for a new one. Check the Home Office Guidance (it's available online , a clever bald monkey here may guide you to it) and when you speak to Plod or Plodette, quote to them the page and paragraph number relevant. They may administer the system, but they don't always understand it and must never be allowed to make it up as they go along...

I've seen them listed as "barrelled action - 223" or two separate slots as "receiver" and "barrel-223"

I would be wary or selling an upper as a spare barrel assy, I'd certainly ask the FEO of the issuing force if that's what was meant. Otherwise a barrel assy is barrel, barrel extension and possibly flash hider/muzzle brake.

I had the a receiver (admittedly it was a lower receiver) and barrel listed separately on my FAC when i had an AR. I think it's probably the safest way TBH

I would suggest giving Mark Bradley at Bradley Arms a call. He's been building and shooting ARs for many years and he knows what works.

Thanks, already spoken to Mark.

Was wondering if there were any other retailers.

There are plenty of others.
