Pump action centrefire

Are pump action centrefire rifles, for example the Remington 7600, legal in the UK? We've seen none around...

Banned when semi-auto centrefires were banned
Was rabbit shooting with a Remington 223 pump action about 4 years ago.
Trigger left a little to be desired

Banned ? What was the reasoning (if such a word is appropriate) behind that ? Surely they are no faster to operate accurately than a good bolt action...

The words "pump action" installs a sense of overwhelming fear in the minds of the f-witts. Nearly as scarry as seeing a rifle with a scope mounted on top.

The reason why is obvious as well, they are both AK47s.

Pump-action or slide-action rifles, if you prefer, were banned with the 1988 Amendment Act, except for those in .22.
The story goes, from memory, that representatives from the shooting bodies met with the then Home Secretary, Douglas Hurd. Hurd stated at the beginning of the meeting that he was going to ban self loading rifles in response to public (newspaper editors) pressure in the aftermath of the Hungerford murders.
It's alleged that Hurd would not budge, eventually stating something like the rate of fire capable with semi auto rifles had no place in civilian sport. Then a representative supposedly scoffed at Hurd with along the lines of he [Hurd] didn't know what he was talking about as pump action rifles could fire just as fast as semi auto. Hurd snapped back that he was banning those as well....
There were limited pump rifles at the time, most notably Remington, in full bore calibres designed for hunting. There were also beautiful Colt Lightning's and Marlin 27's from the American Frontier days and a cheeky little number from IMI, the Timberwolf, in .357 and .44. There have only been a few others since then and mostly, if memory serves, of upgraded Remington models.

I shot a 30-06 pump action something (probably a Remington) when I was in the US last year and it wasn't a nice experience wtfwtf

But a Colt Lighning medium frame in .38-40 is a thing of beauty.....

It was probably a Remington 7600 or the older 760 model. So what was unpleasant about shooting it? It's not like the 30-06 is a mule kicker and hard on the shoulder.
