If you are shooting 1000 rounds 'tween now and March, I'd be looking at a new barrel rather than a new scope.

Let's keep it simple for Dromia, ooman, and not mix Imperial and metrikkery. You'll be shooting at four and half furlongs...

Falcon optics are worth a look. I was shopping with a similar budget and the falcon menace 4-14 made the top of the list based on reviews and features. Can be found for around £230. The only poor reviews I found were from Americans complaining about lifetime warantee as they would have to ship back to UK. A non issue for us Brits..

Had a couple of MTC Scopes, Viper 8-32x60IR and a 6-24x56 Taipan, neither were what I would call good, adequate yes but they both have a tendency to white out at higher mags. The new Genesis gets much better reviews but I've not tried one so can't confirm anything. The Vipers and Taipans can usually be found used for £150 - £200.

I'm also looking for something similar for my next rifle, if I can wait It'll be another Sightron SIII 8-32x56 from the US at around £500 but if I have to buy one here in rip-off Britain then I'd certainly take a look at the Vortex range.

Riflecraft are the UK distributor and they come with an unconditional, unlimited, lifetime warranty. According to Riflecraft you don’t need a receipt, if it says Vortex on the side and it breaks they will repair or replace it absolutely free no matter the cause. That also includes anything bought before they took over in January. This includes Rangefinders, Scopes, Binoculars, Red Dots, and Spotting Scopes.

Another vote for Falcon. I have one on my .308. The only limiting factor at 1000 yards is me.

Vortex, excellent glass, I had my hands on three of them a few months ago and I was impressed, I normally shoot with an IOR.

Lifetime guarantee across the entire range.
