I am new to target rifles and find there is limited information about the Swing rifle in general.

I would like to know if anyone cane advise me on how to strip and re-assemble!! the sing mk 4 bolt! (springs tend to bounce if you don't know what to do or expect!)

Wikipedia do a reasonable article on the origins and development of the Swing rifles. I'd also suggest that you contact the good people over at HPS Target Rifles whom I'm sure will be able to walk you through the disassembly process for the Mk 4 bolt.

To strip a Swing bolt you need to de-cock it first, best is probably with a proper tool (although it can be done with the bolt in the gun). Don't unscrew the plug at the back of the bolt with the bolt cocked, it is holding the spring tension!

Can you explain the process of de-cocking? I know how to do it with small-bore but not the Swing! Once de-cocked what are the next stages and are there any photos to aid explanation.

The Swing bolt needs to be in the 'cocked' mode when inserted AND removed from the rifle. As such, it normally comes with a type of 'C' spanner which facilitates this process. HPS Target Rifles sell them and you can view them on their website. The Swing spring is fairly powerful and Andrew is right on the money when he says the tension MUST be removed before dismantling the bolt.
I'm away from home at present otherwise I'd flag up a photo showing how it's done, but I'm sure that one of the other forum members could do that for you. Once the tension is off the spring, the plug at the back is removed to gain access to the innards. There is an excellent exploded parts photograph of the Swing bolt on Wikipedia that you will find useful.

If the photo file has attached properly, you should see a small metal pin outlined in red in the photograph. The red circular outline is where it normally protrudes when the bolt is decocked. The 'C' spanner is placed over the body of the bolt at 90 degrees and the hook of the spanner placed over this pin. A bit of muscle is then applied (you are compressing the spring) until the pin moves upwards in the photo and clicks into place. The bolt is then cocked. Note that this is a 2 x handed affair. To decock, just reverse the process but be ready for it to spring as it cams over and the tension comes off.

No wonder they make such a ping when fired, that's a good size spring. Never had a misfire with my Swing!
