Jays, jackdaws and collared doves could be removed from the General Licences and shooters be forced to scare pigeons before resorting to shooting them, if proposals in a wide-ranging consultation on wildlife management in England are adopted.

Shooting and conservation organisations have greeted the launch of Natural England's (NE) consultation on the General and Class Licences with mixed feelings and have urged shooters to respond.

Didn't we have this nonsense a couple or three years ago where we were told to try and frighten the woodies off the crop before shooting them.
Anyone with a modicum of knowledge about pigeon shooting will know that you have to shoo them off the field before you set up, otherwise simply shooting a huge flock of sitting pigeons will simply move them all onto another field and you will have to up-sticks and move your hide.
This isn't crop protection because you are simply moving the birds to another feeding zone.
The antis in government are at it again and trying to ban shooting by the back door.

Absolutely no need to shoot pigeons, the easy thing to do is for farmers not to grow any crops for several years. That would reduce pigeon numbers without the need to kill them by shooting, lets just starve the buggers out. :run:
