We've just managed a single (ragged) hole group with our Swiss K31 at 300 mards using GP11 surplus. We're beginning to think this rifle /cartridge combination is as good as anything currently available. Have any of you oomans used it at 1000 mards? How did it compare against 7.62 / .308 ?

Achieved a similar group at 300 using handloads with a 168gn SMK on top. Wouldn't want to push the 168's past 600 though.
The rifle continues to amaze me and I'm convinced that it could do better. Unfortunately, I'm the limiting factor (but I live in hope).

Great rifle though and I really enjoy letting her rip. She's a keeper!

We find we obtain excellent results using standard GP11 canned bangs. It's a shame they are so expensive...

How much are such milsurp canned bangs?

The GP11 rounds are some of the more expensive military canned bangs: £63/100

Wow - that's some shooting for a badger!

Just looked at the 300 mard results for the World Benchrest Championships in Australia last year - 0.7102 inch group agg. (one ragged hole?) won the gold medal.

Can you imagine - a £5000 rifle with all the fancy front rest, back-bag, handloaded ammo, 50 power scope etc. and a badger turns up with an old nail and milsurps ammo and blows him away!!!

Maybe we should have no talk of groups shot without pictures? Anyway, is there a standard definition of a "ragged, one hole group?"

In any case, back to your question about the K31/GP11 - I think my Steyr is better because it's
1) Proven in two world wars, and
2) Surplus ammo is cheaper @ £69 for a tin of 250rds! :55:

If it counts I was at Sennybridge F range yesterday and hit the 1000yd fig 11 target with my K11 using Ramshot Big game behind a 145 tracer bullet.
Only managed it once out of about 20 shots but the jaws on the floor of my two mates, who were spotting, was priceless!.
The arc of the bullet was joyous! Even the misses were close. My first shot was correct for elevation but landed 3 feet to the right.
All three of us were shooting AI`s various and struggled to get consistent hits on it due to blustery wind.
We had a crack at the 1100 yd target but no coconut. The tracer rounds out the 308`s were just bouncing off the grass at that distance.
I have shot mine at 900 a few times and 1000 once at Bisley and it is quite amazing. At 900, if no wind, I can generally get 8 out of 10 shots into the black. A couple of mates have K11/K31 and have similar results. I use Lapua 155gn scenars.
