I've just got a Lee Enfield and would like to find as much information as I can.

Can anyone help me identify the marking/serial numbers on my Lee Enfield?

I've blacked out the 3 digits of the serial number

You need The Bible - Lee Enfield Rifle by Skennerton! (and others!)

You have a LE No 4 Mk1. FTR is Factory Through Repair which is a rebuild and re numbered. F is the factory at Fazakerly where work was done.

There is a hugh amount of info on the 'net. You can find an explanation for each mark there plus you will get more info from here!!!!

No.4 Mk.I, originally built by and then factory thorough repaired by Fazakerley, 1943 manufacture. That rifle has an unusual amount of the original finish on it - nice find. There's usually a date with the FTR mark, in the format m/yy, e.g. 9/47 - can't see one in these pics.

Ejector screw is missing from the LHS of the receiver, though the rifle should still eject OK without it. What's the marking to the left of the screw hole - scratches or something deliberately made? It's not a usual location for a marking.

The mark at 12 o'clock on top of the receiver looks like the service "general proof" mark. You may find the crossed flags wartime proof mark electro-pencilled onto the bolt or bolt head.

Thanks for noticing the screw was missing, i've now put it on the rifle.

I've got some more marking on the barrel but I don't think I can find any more information.

Is there any way to tell if it was a sniper version or some added the cheek piece after?

NOT a sniper version - as there's no evidence of any scope bracket bases on the left of the receiver

The cheekrests are easy to find/add - more than likely put on so the rifle was more comfortable to shoot with a commercial scope on it

It did have a scope on it before I got it but o well.
