Having been out of shooting for a decade or more, there are lots of things which are new to me.

I've seen laser bore sighters advertised in various places - these seem to be divided into two basic types: those which are calibre-specific and resemble a round of that calibre, and those which are universal and fix into the bore using a series of calibre-based collets or similar.

Looking on FleaBay, I've seen quite a lot like ths - any good or just junk?

What is best - I currently have rifles in .224/.243/.308 calibres and anything I add in the near future (.300 WSM and 7.5x55mm) will fit into these calibre-grops. Are the multi-calibre jobbies worth the £12-16 asking price or are they useless junk?

Mk 1 eyeball is still the best bore sighter.

Swings and roundabouts. I've tried the 'looks like a cartridge' type and it wouldn't even chamber (9mm in my LR9). I've borrowed Leeroy's down the barrel type and they are OK. They will generally get you onto the paper however they don't work in all firearms (my SLR for instance due to the long flash hider)

Don't waste your money on one of those laser sighters that goes into the muzzle , I bought one last year and at 25yds it will rotate and the laser line produces a circumference around the centre point with a radius of about 10"
So its more accurate to bore sight by eye .

OK - guess I just saved myself £15 (egg fried rice version) or £30 (either Bushnell or cartridge type).

I remember reviewing one for a magazine about 10 years ago. Bore-sighting beat it hands down.

Could be OK for 25m indoor pistol calibre stuff which is less easy to bore-sight but a large sheet of paper would do just as well.

I tried a friends brand new muzzle end type a couple of weeks ago when I was sighting in my K22's red dot, it wasn't much cop as you could barely see the dot at 10m never mind 25m on an outdoor range, as others have said just use a big sheet of paper with a cross on it and adjust till you hit centre.

I have used something very similar to that one, and they are OK to get you fairly close to zero with a new scope. A lot depends on the distance that you want to zero your rifle at, though.

They work better at shorter distances i.e., air rifle type distances of up to 50m or so. I'm not sure how good they would be at longer ranges.

The rubber ferrules can become detached, which will require a poke with a cleaning rod to remove.

Would I buy another one? No.
