Contemplating a new rifle in 6.5x47 although TOH hasn't quite come round to it.

Any thoughts on Nesika vs Barnard P action

Ken,

They are both fine actions well suited to an accurate 6.5x47 rifle. I've owned both and both are built to high tolerances and finish.

The Barnard is pig-ugly but the Nesika a thing of beauty so, for me it would always be the Nesika - but, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' and, if you don't share my opinion, the Barnard will be a fine choice.

The Nesika actions look very nicely manufactured, particularly the "Classic" action which is quite beautiful.

The "Tactical" with the fluted bolt is for a tart or ponce's gun! tongueout

I may be wrong.....

I believe Nesika actions to be stainless.

I have a barnard SM (which is a beaut but not stainless), but would have gone Nesika had they been available at the time given our ruddy weather.

You never know when you might miss a bit with the drying out. I do smear the moisture traps with a thin film of grease but even then....

I would go for the Barnard P over the Neskia. The Barnard has a 22,0mm diameter three lug bolt versus the two lug 17,78mm or 19,05mm bolt diameter of the Nesika, the Barnard has a stiffer bolt column and is generally a more rigid action however it is horses for courses. The Nesika has a lighter bolt lift and is well suited to F Class, the Barnard has a slightly heavier bolt lift however to me is a superior rifle action. i would go for the P.

Maggot is quite right about the actions, I have a Barnard P action next to me right now with under 400 shots through it however it has very minor rust marks below the water line where it got caught in the rain and was not stripped out of the bedding for a full clean and drying. I was quite disappointing when I discovered the damage even though it cannot be seen in the stock and is purely cosmetic.

Barnard, definitely. They've got a proven track record in precision shooting and there are a lot more of them in the UK, and more dealers who supply them, so parts and repair are probably going to be cheaper than for the Nesika.

I must admit I prefer the barnard to shoot Dave. I was not thinking about mechanics. Mine is silky in operation, my only mistake being that I ever thought I "Might" need a magazine!!!

Sometimes I think that the word stainless can be a bit of a lazy mans charter....don't clean it because you think you don't need to....then you get other problems.

They still need looking after, and sometimes stainless can be a bit missleading

David,

Ang what about the Delta 59, be it only when it comes to corrosion resistance?
