Hi Paul...right, time for an online bollocking!!!
You shoot with the DRM. If you had come and spoken to me yesterday you could have looked through (and even shot) a Dolphin with an 8-32x56 LRMTD fitted.
There were also Niteforce and march there to be looked at mate.
Russell Simmonds was shooting on 106 with his 8-32x56 Sightron (modified), its good enough for him....he won the WCs with one.
My honest advice is try before you buy .You may find the optics on a lower price scope suits you eyes better and that is what counts. I dont care what optics cost or what coatings they boast, IF the optics suit you, dont cause eye strain when used IN THE CONDITIONS YOU EXPECT TO USE THEM and the mechanics track reliably then consider one.
Dont always be seduced by massive mags. Some of the best F/TR shots are very successfull with 32x, and often come down lower, particularly when there is heavy mirage running.
Several of our lot tried the higher mag Sightrons and did not rate them as well as the 8-32.
One problem is that the more glass you put in something, the greater the weight, and the greater the chance of abberations with missalignment.
To my mind, Sightron is a good value capable scope, and they do a very good backup service with lifelime warranty.
I have considered other "Greater" Marques, but would they make me shoot better? Just under 2k difference spent on a new barrel or ammo until I can justify (or even find I need) a better scope maybe?
Also, they are the lightest of the usual suspects, but they are no S&B, they are not up to a good beating. Well made, but not "sniper fodder" in terms or robusteness.
No scope is without quirks, so next time out, try what you can.
And whatever you do dont let Sam mount it for you mate!!
