We've heard conflicting stories on how easily a Noise Magnet can be re-barrelled. Do any of you have any experience of the task? Some say that it's a doddle, others that the barrels are attached to the actions so firmly that removing them tends to crush the action. Our plan is to re-barrel a low cost or shot out Noise Magnet something along the lines of the way the Finns did to create the TKIV-85, ie add a good, heavy barrel, possibly in stainless.

The barrels can be a nightmare to remove however you can ease things somewhat by undercutting the barrel to receiver junction and taking some of the pressure off the barrel shank. Regardless of this it can still be a scaffold pole job if you are unlucky.

No, mouse, we didn't. Now we have, we don't like them. The Finns have a long history of converting Mosins and making silk purses out of sow's ears. The TKIV-85 was made from an old, usually Tula, hexagonal action that was rebarrelled with a heavy Sako barrel and a new trigger. It was regarded as extremely accurate and has only recently been replaced by the TRG series of sniper rifles. It was so accurate that the old TKIVs were not sold to civilian shooters but are being re-issued as dedicated marksman's rifles to the best shot in each platoon. Our plan is to convert a similar action, or, if the Noise Magnet is a pig to re-barrel, maybe re-chamber a P14 we have instead. We like the 7.62x54R cartridge. Milsurp is cheap, and, now we are into pawloading, accurate loads for it are possible.

As it happens, I do not like the rifle in the link. Way too expensive for 1,5 moa.

I would be interested in seeing a TKIV, but thats as close as I would want to be to a Mossin,

Very sportin' the Finns. The Russian general in command of the Soviet forces in the Winter War commented that the Soviet Army had won just enough Finnish soil to bury their dead, about 750,000.

If you could get a UK-59 barrel that would be brilliant! Apparently they go on pretty easily compared to some and can help improve accuracy greatly.
