Hi everyone. I am a new member, and this is my first post.

I have few questions regarding asecond hand rifle I am about to buy.

The rifle is Grunig&Elgimer Super target 200 chamber for .308

1. Can the action and the action thread support heavy barrel? By heavy barrel I mean 30 mm outside diameter. The barrel thread is 16 mm long (I measured it)
2. The force of the ejection of empty case is weak(comparing to common rifles) and the empty case fall very near to ejection port. Is this normal or there is some issue with the ejection mechanism?
3.How and where can i buy picattiny rail to put on the action?

Hope someone will know about the rifle, and will be kind to answer.

Thank you

GYT

Hi Gyt,

Rox is probably the best-placed person to answer your questions as he shoots G&E rifles, but in the meantime it would be good to know what you want to use this rifle for as this will give us some clues. Are you going to use it for F-TR or Match Rifle? (I'm guessing not 300mtr or TR because of the scope question, and F-Class is out because of the calibre.)

My stab at answers below...

1 - Generally a standard 30" medium contour barrel should be fine provided that the rifle is bedded properly, but to answer more fully: how long a barrel do you want to put on the rifle? What profile / contour of barrel? The problem will usually be the bedding. I find it extremely unlikely that the threading would every present an issue (but someone on f-b.co.uk could know better...)

2 - For the vast majority of things that you'd want to use a G&E action for, it doesn't matter how far the thing ejects. I shoot UK NRA Target Rifle and use a Barnard action which doesn't eject at all! Is there a reason why ejection matters to you?

3 - Not a clue I'm afraid. Try Shooting Shed, HPS or Fulton's.

Good luck!

Gaz

I'm not familiar with the rifle but - 30mm is not a particularly heavy profile - unless it's parallel and long - i.e. 30 inches. What length do you envisage? Will it be tapered? For what cartridge? You could flute it.

Ejection - most shooters don't want to flick their brass onto the next firing-point. If it just drops the fired case next to the rifle, I would have thought that to be ideal for a comp. gun. If it's a normal plunger-ejector, fitting a stronger spring would be possible - how far do you want to throw 'em?

It's possible to buy a length of 'blank' Picatinny rail - look on Ebay (under Sporting Goods, Hunting) - plenty advertised.

Thank you guys for your answers(and questions).
First I will introduce myself.
I live in Israel, ,architect and silversmith by profetion.A member of I.N.R.A.(Israel National Rifle Association).
I.N.R.A is long range shooting sporting club here. Our shooting activity resembling F-TR class. We shoot 100-800 meter,7.62/51, prone, scope with bipod. Reloading is forbidden here in Israel,(as many other things) so we use factory (i.w.i) ammo.
I want to rebarrel the Grunig&Elmiger rifle with a Luthar Walter blank stainless steel barrel 0.30 cal' which I have. The barrel is 28" long, outside diameter from 28mm to 30 mm at the action,twist1-11.The ammo we use 7.62/51 168-175grain factory (I.W.I). In our competitions sometime there is time limit so it is importent to eject quikly. Most of the rifles here are bolt repeater with magazine.
The Super target 200 rifle has a special wide and long exterior aluminum bedding device.
I hope I did not forgott something...
Can you help me to contact Rox?
Thank you again.

Grunig make a 20 minute Picatinny/Weaver rail for the ST200 - I bought one last year. It mounts with 4 screws into the top of the action. Some actions come already drilled and tapped, otherwise you'll need to get that done. If Grunig don't have any available I may be able to find one. I also heard of someone else who was going to make a rail for the ST200; I'm not sure if that ever happened - I'll have to ask the question next time I see the person concerned.

I have the ejectors turned off on my ST200s, and it's so long since I shot with them turned on that I can't remember the ejection trajectory, but I think you are probably right that they don't throw the case very far. I guess they are designed so they don't shower one's neighbour with cases or throw cases where they may get lost in the grass or get wet or gritty. The round action predecessor to the ST200 had no ejector at all. Perhaps the CISM version of the FT300 is different in this respect - I have no first hand experience of the FT300. It would be worth asking Grunig if you call them about the rail. I've had plenty of parts from them including springs to swap triggers from 1500g to 200g, so maybe they can supply or suggest something firmer for the ejector.

I don't know for certain about your barrel profile, but I have a heavy 32" Match Rifle barrel for shooting to 1200 yards as well as 30/31" Palma profile barrels, and Grunigs are often seen with heavy parallel profiles for 300m shooting, albeit slightly shorter.

Good luck if you buy the rifle - I wish I'd seen it first!

I will let you know if I will buy it.The price requested 1700$
Anyway, I have to buy picattiny rail, because my scope(Marsh 5x50x56) comes with mounts requierd such a rail.
I can attach pictures if I only knew how to do it.
