As i cant seem to sell it i thought i might restore tidy up my Enfield No4 Mk1 into a sniper rifle ,obviously buying the original gear is a bit of a no go .
So any advise on the repro parts available .At least if its scoped up it will get some use .

My advice is do not fit a repro No32 scope, mount and (pads these need fitting by a gunsmith) as the scopes are rubbish (not sure if available in the UK and most US companies will not ship) and originals are expensive, (although I know of a mint original scope for sale for £1500).

I would fit a Fultons or Armalon scope rail fits where the battle sight goes without damage to the rifle, then you can fit modern or older style scopes such as a Pecar etc, then if required you can return to a standard rifle.

You could always fit target sights such as a Parker Hale 5c rear and tunnel foresight with changeable elements.

Some chap in Malta currently has a 4 (T) DIY kit on Ebay

Better than nothing and possibly not too bad- cost wise.

Another option:
Get the repro scope mount set & add a Lyman Alaskan.
You'd then have a Canadian style repro 4 (T)

OR

Bin the WW2 look altogether and fit an XS Sights scout scope mount.
Add a long eye relief pistol scope and you have a very fast handling scout rifle.

Of the options open to you, I'd go with the latter one.

I agree with BNZ, I would suggest have a play with different configurations, but don't do anything that perminently damages the originality of your No4.

The once plentiful and cheap No4 mk1 is rapidly becoming a rare rifle in good original shooting condition, their value is now steadily rising as the available No4's get "shot out" or deactivated, original barrel's are hard to find now and new barrels very expensive indeed.

I can see good original shooting No4's commanding high prices 5 years from now!

Allready fitted with target sights but my eyesight prefers a tele

saw the e bay stuff which is what got the grey matter going
even thought about going 'modern' with a sporter look but couldnt find stocks

I think your right hence the need to do the whole job with sympathy

I am not sure where the 'Reproduction are rubbish' comes from, I had one here a few days ago and was quite impressed with it, plus you can buy them without the mounts and pads and fit them with a no gunsmith mount and some appropriate rings. Given the price and look of them they have to be worth considering for a period feel without impacting the originality of the rifle.

I may be able to help you out. I am off out now when I get back home I will have a rummage I am pretty sure I have a no gun smith mount some were amongst the many boxes of stuff in my gun room.
