Has anybody any experience of travelling on Etihad with a firearm?
Nothing is showing on their web site about charges. EasyJet are pretty good at £26 per sector but BA are a nightmare.

Depending on where you are going fly with Virgin as they do not charge for handling firearms, neither do Emirates.

Never had any trouble going to the States with firearms and using BA.

Might be going to SA and flying Emirates might also be an option.
Cheers Steve and well done on your Palma selection.
BA will take a rifle but it just costs a fortune!

Going to SA Virgin is my airline of choice. No hassle with carrying firearms and ammunition.
I know several people this year travelled to SA with Emirates. Cheaper than Virgin, but you do have a 4-5 hour wait at Dubai. Contact DC as he did it that way this year and will have all the gen.

BA charge £50 each way ... I used to use them when it was free and never an issue.
As for Etihad or Emirates - just think that your rifle will be unloaded in the Middle East held until your next flight and then loaded on. There is always a chance of it being delayed or mis-routed.
There are specific rules for travel to SA - guns must be on their own, ammunition separate and not mixed with personal possessions and BA will not charge for excess baggage if you exceed your allowance because of it.

I used to find BA very helpful, they even called me to say I hadn't booked ammunition and did I want to. They were quite insistent I SHOULD even when I said no ammo was being taken. Bureaucratic yes but never any problems, funny enough same with Thomas Cook - but that may have changed now.
