I know ammonia is good at removing gun blue , but I would imagine is near on impossible to get these days . Does any one know of an alternative or best product for the job .
Thanks Dave

I've only just bought a bottle of ammonia. Available from pretty much any hardware store.
Bought mine from McKays in Cambridge. The previous bottle was from a cleaning supplies shop.
Unlike cilit bang, I wouldn't use it indoors. The fumes are nasty.

Gun blue is actually black iron oxide, rust is red iron oxide, so anything that removes rust will also remove gun blue.

Any proper hardware store will get it in for you. You might need to order a gallon -ups 5litres.

Real hardware store or online. Amazon will set you with half a litre for a fiver.

And there was us thinking that the blue deposits were copper salts... Metallurgy and chemistry must be different from what they once were these days.
