Jurassic World - a good gun choice

Just a fun little topic to discuss

I watched the Jurassic World movie on Monday and noted that the Chris Pratt character actually had a good choice of rifle for the situation he was in! A lever action Marlin 1895SBL chambered in .45-70 (hopefully not one of the badly made Remlins), a reliable gun in a calibre known to be effective for bigger game. Even better he had plenty of ammunition for it (on the sling and his jacket) and unlike many a film kept it to hand nearly all the time rather than inexplicably leaving it somewhere. The SPAS 12 looked cool in Jurassic Park but it is a pretty poor choice.

This is only the second time I have seen a good gun choice in a Jurassic park series with the Pete Postlethwaite character being the other with his .600 nitro express double rifle albeit he loses marks for leaving it unattended with a known animal rights activist, not checking it at anytime afterwards and for no apparent reason having no spare ammunition on his person (A big Game Warden and Dangerous Game hunter from Africa and he only has two bullets on him?! wallhead). In the real world when he shot at the Tyrannosaur and found two empty chambers he would of just loaded it again...but I digress.

Also some honorable mentions for lost world with the M134 gatling gun and AT4 anti tank missiles...

Funnily enough I read the title to your thread, and immediately thought of my 1895SBL (unfortunately one of the Remlin ones). I was shooting at Bisley on sunday with it at 100yrds, and the NRA instructor asked me if I'd like a T-Rex target for it....

Wonder if Chris Pratt had any say in choice, the guy is an avid shooter and hunter apparently.

Anything .50BMG would do the job, with a personal preference for an AS50. But at over 12kg i wouldn't like to be the poor sod humping it about.

I personally prefer the SPAS 12, more iconic for me and also features in The Terminator, if it's good enough for Arnie it's good enough for me so I bought one !

My choice: 57mm recoiless rifle. Just make sure you hit the target with your first shot since it is your only one!

.577 Nitro Express double rifle for me. Or maybe an AR in .50 Beowolf.
