Proposals to ban lead ammunition

#1 Post by ukrifleman »

I just received the latest edition of the primer from the Vintage Arms Association and was shocked to read that only 23,300 out of a pool of about 150,000 cast bullet shooters had bothered to sign the petition to keep lead ammunition.

If you haven't already done so, google the `keep all lead ammunition` site and sign the petition to keep using lead projectiles.

For those who are unaware, the `Lead Ammunition Group` was set up by the previous Labour government to look into banning lead shot for shooting live quarry. The group has however, recommended that ALL lead ammunition should be banned.

If implemented, it means a total ban on all lead projectiles. So if you shoot muzzle loading pistols and rifles, vintage military rifles with cast, gallery rifle, .22 rim-fire and air guns your lead projectiles will be banned, as will jacketed bullets with lead cores.

This would be particularly devastating for muzzle loaders, air gun and .22 rim-fire shooters as there is no viable alternative to lead.

The deadline for signing the petition is 13th may 2016.

So please don't sit on your hands, sign the petition if you want shooting as a sport to survive.

The VAA Primer magazine certainly made for interesting reading over this mornings cuppa teanews .

Especially the part which mentions 'The Policing & Crime Bill' which was first read in parliament in February, which amongst other things propose changes to the current firearms act. Amongst some changes could be the firearm definition being amended to anything with a barrel and muzzle energy of more than 1J, which could effect air rifles/pistols (thats if the lead ban proposal doesn't get those owners first), however the 1 Joule limit doesn't count for airsoft rifles (I suppose they hope the EU directive will take care of that one).

I should caution that it's not over till it's over, still the chance to get a bad result whatever the drums say

My biggest gripe is with the apathy of the vast majority of people who would be directly affected by such a ban and just can't be bothered to lift a finger in protest.

I don't think it's a case of can't be bothered, and more a case of shooting is full of old people who don't really use much in the way of computers to sign a petition.

Now, last time I said such a thing on here I had an old duffer who does use a computer take offence! ;)

However, they cannot deny there are loads of older folk in the shooting community who aren't computer savvy, don't have a web presence, and even the concept of emails scares them. Can the younger members of thier clubs help them? Of course, but you try getting them to accept the help half the time!

I just signed it and I see myself as switched on and internet savy but I must admit that they were going after lead ammo/lead core beyond shotgun cartridges is new to me.

I have already signed a petition against the lead shot ban...again legislation written by morons with little to no understanding of how guns work.
