[Nods head in greeting]
Hello, Shooters of the Bore that is Full.
Here within this thread will be my ramblings on the subject of a new rifle recommendation. Your mission, if you so wish, is to assess these words and to then produce for me knowledge in the form of learnin's.
-- I'm currently after a new rifle in either 7.62/.308 or 5.56/.223 (apparently there are other calibres out there that aren't .303), this will be for the hallowed pass-time of "plinking", so nothing too extreme will be required. I shoot at Barton Rd. in Cambridgeshire, normally from 100 - 600 yards but we can and do go back further
-- Ideally I'm looking for something modern - not tactical bull-pup - but something newer than a .303, something black and shiny with the ability to afix a scope. A sporting rifle I assume is the correct term. Not an F-class or Target Rifle
-- I can't decide if I should be looking at a 7.62mm or a 5.56mm. I'm leaning towards the 5.56mm at the moment. Mainly as I have enough .303s so why have a 7.62mm? I want a modern gun that I can just set up and plink with if and when the desire arises. A 5.56mm seems more suited to this - comfortable recoil, cheap (??) ammunition, and a completely different round to what I normally shoot
-- As above, this will be a fun* plinking gun; not to be taken too seriously. Can one be obtained without breaking the piggy bank?
These are the ramblings of the Tower. What sayesth you, friends?
*Are we allowed to say that?
