EU gun ban - its happening!

I heard a whisper the EU voted to ban all semi-auto centre fire rifles from civilian possession this afternoon.

Obviously won't affect us here in the UK either way but its the thin end of the wedge in Europe, we're already well towards the thick end.

I do wonder what will happen to semi automatic high capacity shotguns which would have more of an impact on the UK than a ban on centrefire S/A's

If its based on the current EU commission diktat proposal it only affects "military" style Semis and they watered the definition down to ones that basically have a folding stock due to overall length (Finland does something like this already).

Especially about what the direct implications will be to uk gun owners live or deactivated.

BASC welcomes the position adopted by a European Parliament committee which will prevent a ban on firearms used by those who shoot.

Vicky Ford MEP chaired the Internal Market Committee (IMCO) as it steered through suggested changes to European Commission amendments to the firearms directive.

The effect of these changes will ensure amendments which would have damaged shooting are not taken forward.

If passed into European law as expected this autumn, this updated directive will largely focus on closing loopholes around deactivated and imitation firearms while also introducing robust controls around high capacity semi-automatic firearms. This is an attempt to prevent access to the sort of weapons used in recent terror attacks.

This final amended directive means that .22 rimfire rifles used for pest control in the UK will not be caught up in new restrictions.

So assuming it does become law will the .22LR S/A be unlawful to possess other than for ' Pest control'
