4/5 Gun Safe

All,
I am looking at the following gun safe:
http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/bra ... op-cabinet

Does anyone have any experience with this safe as I wanted something which would take a couple of scoped rifles and an Enfield mk4, as well as have the internal ammo storage. I am aware that you need to over buy size wise but have no plans to move past 3 rifles anytime soon as I don't even own 1 yet!

Regards,
Paul

Hi Paul

I was going to get that exact safe myself but went for the following instead:

http://www.uttings.co.uk/p104166-bsa-ex ... 5sfOOT2aUk

I personally went for the 8 gun version as loads of room inside as the last thing I wanted to do was to have to buy another safe a few years down the line!
Loads of space also means less chance of banging your guns about and although I'm sure the Brattonsound will be finished better I'm chuffed with the BSA safe.
Delivery was £9.99 which I thought was great and it only took 3 days to arrive.

Ryan

I think that is the RL5+ which I have.

I currently have 2 x Scoped 22LR, my old air rifle and a O/U shotgun stored in it. And I would describe it as quite full. It will comfortably hold 5 O/U shotguns, or probably 5 of the CZ455 with a 30mm scope but struggles with my rather broad RM10/22.

The locking mechanism seems secure, and the top box will store a significant quantity of .22LR. I would suggest however that you might need an extra Ammo safe for more than 100-200 rnds of 303.

Local plod FEO will recognise Brattonsound keeping them sweet.

General rule of buying gun safes, look through the Brattonsound catalogue and find the one that looks like the right size for your needs then ignore it and look for the model that is larger than your needs. Once you have found that model of safe ignore it and buy the next largest one up from that!

Don't bother ordering the anchor bolt fixing kit, go to B&Q they sell the same bolts cheaper just remember to buy some out-sized washers.

Finally make sure the cupboard you are securing it in has room for a second gunsafe the same size as the over-sized one you are installing as you will run out of space surprisingly quick such is this hobby!

Note: I use a separate Brattonsound pistol safe for ammo, a worthwhile investment in my IMHO. Again make sure there is room to install a second one for when you run out of space.

Have fun!

I'm on my third safe now having got rid of two for one 10 gun buffalo river safe
Next step will be a secure gun room/ armoury
My 10 gun only just holds 5 rifles and 1 O/U
Shooting gets addictive so go for biggest safe you have room for

I've got the same safe RL5+, currently holding 6 rifles with a bit of care and planning 3 scoped rifles and 3 iron sighted, also use a PA5 for ammo.

I have the RL5+ and it takes three large scoped .223/.308 rifles comfortably. I managed to get four in at one point but the scopes were touching and I had to remove bolts and breech flags.

The top cabinet is OK for storing bolts but you won't get much CF ammo in there.

Yeah the integral ammo box is more for the shotgunnists who like to keep a couple of boxes of cartridges locked away from the children.

The PA5 or PD7 are a much better bet for the target shooter building up a rifle collection, you can buy alternatives from the local DIY centre as the requirements for an ammo safe are oddly not as stringent as for a Rifle/Shotgun cabinet. The PA5 and PD7 have a nice warranty on the other hand and nicely match the larger cabinets. I own a PA5 which is very spacious and perfectly affordable:

Again it your local plod FEO will recognise the logo which keep them sweet.

All,
Thanks for the information, as I was thinking of storing 308 ammo in the storage box the information you all provided has changed my view so Ill just get a normal extra deep one without the storage and buy a separate ammo storage safe instead!

Paul

Now is the time to buy something nice for the wife, before you discuss taking over most of the cupboard space in the house.
