Hi all,

Two weeks in a row I've had trouble with my bipod coming off my rifle! When I tighten the screw enough to fit it snugly the scissor action ends up sitting right on the edge of the bracket. After a few shots the recoil moves it, the scissor action drops below the bracket and it pings off.

Is there a way round this? With limited knowledge I'm not sure if a different brand/model would have a slightly different design that would work better with my rifle?

What bipod/rifle combination do you have?, pics might help as well

I don't know the make/model of the bipod, the RFD included it for me, the gun is a Steyr Mannlicher
In the last photo you can see how close it sits to coming out of the holder. A few shots and the recoil knocks it out and it all pings off!

I think he sold you the wrong type of bipod or you are not fitting it properly. That looks like a Harris bipod I have used them for years on all makes of rifles. I have never had one come of the rifle.

I'm fitting it by pushing the scissor action through the gap, pinching it onto the rifle part and screwing the tension screw until it's on tight to the rifle. Once it's tight to the rifle it sits just like in the image above. Someone at the range refit it for me last week and it's exactly how I fitted it myself :/

From your first picture it looks like there are two "pads" on the underside of the bipod. Does this make solid contact with your stock? The way the tension screws work is that when you fit the scissor like pegs into the sling swivel stud, the tightening of the screw pulls the scissor action back through that slot. If the two aforementioned pegs are connected to the sling swivel stud correctly, then the pads will be pushed harder against the stock.

Also, am I right in thinking that pictures two and three are two different rifles? That is an - odd - looking sling swivel. Perhaps the bipod adapter is incorrect. I know that Harris sell adapters so perhaps it's worth speaking with your RFD to see if he has one that will fit.

I have a Harris bipod and it's never worked loose from the stock.

Hi. It's definitely the same rifle, just upside down in photo 3. The two pads make perfect contact and sit tight against the stock. The scissor pegs go into the stud and tightening the screw does pull it further through the slot, however it pulls it all the way through so there is nothing stopping the peds from coming back out of the stud.

I'll have a look at the adapters from Harris, thank you. If the sling swivel is odd then might it also be worth me asking Steyr about bipod fitments?

The rifle stud protrudes too much. Change it for a shorter one.

Viper the problem is your sling stud. You have a Harris type bi-pod and it doesn't really fit that type of stud, its meant to fit the conventional stud that fits closer to the stock. I don't know if Harris make a suitable adapter but in any case I'm sure it would be quite simple to remedy the problem by fitting packing pieces between the bi-pod and the stock so as to achieve a proper fit.

Yes I concur, looing at the picture it's unlikely a normal Harris or clone will pull up tight enough, the other option is to build up the padding on the bipod to make the gap smaller, you'll need something rubbery but fairly hard, perhaps an old mouse mat or similar.
