As a new shooter I'm finding lots of conflicting advice around the web and from club members.

Everything from cleaning what's that? to full strip every time.

My rifle is a Rossi 92 .44 I've got a bore snake for it and that seems the best way to go for the barrel.

Not sure about the action

I don't fancy field stripping it just yet it seems quite complex. Some people are advocating break cleaner in the action and leave it to evaporate then something like balistol in there.

A dry lubricant would seem a better choice but not sure about that.

Any advice appreciated what's your system?

take the rear stock off and flush out with cleaner i use brake cleaner dry and oil i do it in a parts try with the action open

With the Rossi, which is a Winchester 92 replica, is a bit of a bugger to fully strip down.

i usually just spray with ballistol or brunox, stick a rag in the action and wipe out. seems to do the trick

I have an original Winchester '92, made in 1902. When I acquired it, in the mid-1980s, I stripped it down fully and cleaned everything---it did not appear to need it.
Since then, after shooting, I push a couple of dry patches through the barrel and, if it looks dry, drop a few drips of light oil into the action. Tens of thousands of rounds later, it still functions perfectly and feeding is smooth and fault free.

I have a Winchester trapper 94AE in 357 I can not remember the last time I cleaned it except for wiping the barrel out occasionally with Eds red.

I have had lever actions for over 20 years and less is more, in my opinion, having heard this from gallery rifle shooters before. It will depend on how many rounds you put down them though.

There may be differences between makes but the Marlins and Winchesters function well without constant stripping and scrubbing. Wipe them down after a shoot and keep an eye on them for gunk/sooty build up and they go on and on. I agree on Brunox and Ballistol. Brake fluid , nope!

Only a light greasing after a strip down (once a year maybe).
