Hi I am currently using Hornady A max 120 grain bullets in my 6.5x55. I have loaded the last of them. So I need to buy some more.
I was thinking of buying 500.
My question is what would you recommend what do you guys use would I be better off going with the 140 grain.
I am shooting at 100, 200, and may be 500 yards.
They dont have to be A max. Im just wondering what you guys are going with.

If this is the same rifle that you had all the issues with sorting out the reloading for that has a tight chamber it may be better to stick with the 120s as that was the bullet that came with the rifle
Don't suppose that it would harm to try some 140s but see if you can scrounge some first and see how they chamber etc, especially as you have a short action, when the 6.5 x 55 usually has a longer action

I use Nosler 140s in both my 6.5s but the A-Max have a narrower profile so if they are for the much discussed 6.5 SE I'd try one to see what seating depth they give you. There's also a 123gr A-Max with a higher BC than the 120gr, designed for the 6.5 Grendel/LBC/Lapua.
I can let you have 1 of each of the following if you want to get a seating depth for them,
Nosler Custom Competition - 140gr
Hornady A-Max - 140gr
PPU FMJ - 139gr (not a great bullet in either of my rifles)
I have a few hundred of the Nosler and A-Max if you want to do a grouping test on a few rounds.
PM me if you'd like them sent :)

That would be good many thanks. I'm totally out of bullets now. Before I buy any more it would be good to try a few different types. I won't necessarily go with A max.

Samples sent this morning :)
I may be getting some of the Hornady 140gr Match FMJ's, they work out about £60/1000 cheaper than the Noslers and £80/1000 cheaper than 139gr Lapuas.

I keep meaning to try the 123 Amax, do you know hoe it compares to the 123 Scenar out to 6-800 yards?
