Fire forming cases

A dodgy re loading die has left me with a quantity of once fired Lapua brass with the shoulders set back to far. I am reluctant to throw them away. I was wondering if I could fire form them back to original dimensions. Any advice on a suitable method would be appreciated.

Load them, shoot them. The cases will then be fire formed to your chamber dimensions.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I am a bit wary of doing that as the shoulders are set back that far the cases rattle about in the chamber.

You could pass a mandrel through them at 7,0mm then neck size only to suit the 6,5 and the false neck with hold the case head back against the bolt face. This does depend on how far back you have set the shoulders.

I can't see any other way of getting the shoulder forward to where it was before. Much the same way as forming Ackley Improved brass from standard factory loadings. If it makes you feel better about it use the "starting load" data.

You could use a starting load from a load you may have fired before, or you could use a fast pistol powder load which is described in The Library:

Shouldn't be a problem - but you could load the bullet slightly forward so that the primer is held against the boltface.

That sounds sensible. I just need a 7mm mandrel now. Im frustrated I would have had one made in a heart beat except my Lathe is goosed. I have tried and failed to find a replacement part for it.
