Don't the NRA have some sort of lease with the MoD? That land is indeed worth a huge amount of money, you could build a medium sized town on it. Unless there is some other reason to preserve it, such as the lesser spotted warbling toadbat, my guess is that at some point it will be turned into housing.saddler wrote:Ah.....to have a national venue change in the UK!
Cheaper real estate up in the Midlands than M25/Home Counties. Bisley estate must be worth gazillions, if not more.
Imagine the positive benefit to the NRA bank balance! Cheaper rental/housing for NRA staff, less traffic congestion, etc.
Most of the land is the danger area, its full of ordinance & stuff - in ww2 it was a bomb drop zone for unspent munitions from bombers flying in to local air bases. only last month a mortar was found just behind the FP on Stickledown. Some if it is SSI & its got a lot of heavy metal laying about. Its got wild life the rest of Surrey could only dream of inc adders & the red deer etc. you would also have to close Pirbright camp & their ranges too as they own the danger area so the chances of everything closing tad low, the chances of permission to clear it & then build on in your grand kids lifetime nil. So value is academic.shugie wrote:Don't the NRA have some sort of lease with the MoD? That land is indeed worth a huge amount of money, you could build a medium sized town on it. I don't think Bisley will ever move - it will just continue becoming less and less relevant. The national tiny bullet organisation will be out of there and into the wilds of Yorkshire at some point in the future, and I foresee more privately owned ranges coming to the fore. Impossible to move BISLEY as its a town.hitchphil wrote:Most of the land is the danger area, its full of ordinance & stuff - in ww2 it was a bomb drop zone for unspent munitions from bombers flying in to local air bases. only last month a mortar was found just behind the FP on Stickledown. I believe MoD have a right to buy the actual NRA camp for some stupid sum £1? in the event of NRA trying to sell it or a bank closing a loan against it.
So moving Bisley out of Surrey - dream on................
