The trial of that utter nutter Thomas Mair is ongoing and details are starting to come out in the press. Of course narrative is everything in such matters!

When he did his vile act all talk was of an antique or home made pistol being used, of course music to the ears of NABIS and Continuity ACPO! Well he actually used a cut down .22rf rifle using expanding ammunition, rags like the Grauniad are making a big fuss about this actually with headlines like this:

Jo Cox murder suspect was armed with hunting bullets, court told
Old Bailey hears Thomas Mair was arrested with a bag of hollow-point bullets that are designed to inflict maximum damage

For the three shots fired two didn't penetrate her head but one was found in her chest cavity. Nevertheless the newspapers are making it VERY clear that it was nasty hunting ammunition designed to kill better.

Of course the devil is in the details as the minor fact that she was also stabbed 15 times with fatal wounds to vital organs like the Heart and Liver can be brushed over. Seven paragraphs about the shooting that probably wasn't fatal and one small paragraph mentioning the 15 fatal stab wounds to neck and vital organs. Or how at point blank range out of a sawn off rifle that he used expanding or non-expanding .22rf wouldn't have made an iota of difference!

So I suppose the sensible proposal of taking expanding back into S.1 from S.5 is rapidly going to come off the table...won't NABIS and Continuity ACPO be pleased!

Isn't the bill already passed with the amendments in question? It even stated in the minutes of that document Blackstuff had that it was a home office plan to put "non pistol ammo" that expands back into section 1.

If that is the case great but looking beyond the Expanding ammo issue and whilst a shooting is VERY serious the playing up of that side of things whilst barely mentioning the serious stabbing does grate a bit.

Yeah if you read the Hansard minutes it was passed, it was actually nice to see Clement Atlee's grandson the current Earl Atlee standing up for Deact owners. And it does grate on me Fedyakin .

To veer a bit off topic your summary of the scottish airgun licensing has been fabulous and on point.

Back to topic it does grate, one question why is there no charge for unauthorized possession of section 5 ammo and a section 5 firearm due to the length he cut said down to (or at least possessed)?

As for the unauthorised possession of ammo and firearm i would guess they will be added on if he is found guilty by totting up all the offences.
