Magpul BAD lever

#1 Post by Blackstuff »

Hello all,

Looking for some help with my Magpul BAD levers. I bought one about 2-3 years ago from Midway, which has since been sitting on my BR99 shotgun and has worked flawlessly for the whole time. It also works (without modification) on my S&W M&P 15-22.

Rather than continually swapping it between the two guns I bought another one, this time from Brownells, and have noticed that it is not the same as the first one, it also doesn’t work properly on my 15-22 as it stops the last round bolt hold open from working.

I note however, that this is a common problem and people have said that it needs to be bent to work on the 15-22 without interfering with the BHO. This leads me to think that either Magpul has changed the design of the BAD lever over the years, or the first BAD lever wasn’t genuine.

The Midway BAD lever has a painted/baked almost gloss finish, whereas the Brownells one is matt and a phosphor type finish. The Midway one is also has a much more pronounced bend to it when viewed from the side. The Brownell one is also very slightly heavier.

Does anyone know if the first one may not be genuine? And more to the point, where I can get another one that actually works properly on both guns!

Mark, I have a one of these on my 15-22, works perfectly :)

If I remember correctly there's a difference in the shape or the height of the bolt hold open button between the AR and the S&W 15-22

You're more than welcome to have a lend of mine to compare between them :)

I had an NDZ which I bought after the Magpul lever wouldn't work. The NDZ worked sporadically. S&W forum reckoned that some mags the springs, whilst strong enough to feed and hold open the original catch, the addition of that extra weight to the bolt hold open is enough to prevent its proper operation.

After removing the BAD lever, operation of the last round hold open went back to working 100%.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Oh, and at the time NDZ wouldn't ship to the UK. Don't know if they do now

Yes but the lever barely poked out of the side of the trigger guard and it is right up against the topof the trigger guard so I had to stick a little extension on it to be able to active it.

I'm going to give it a go but knowing my cack-handedness and it requiring a 3 way bend I doubt its going to survive the process! lol
