Hi
I'd like to screw cut my Winchester 94, it's a 30-30 and has a 19" barrel.
The problem is the engineer that does all my work can't fit the barrel (with action) into the lathe, what options do I have?
I can't find any videos on how to remove the barrel from the action on this particular rifle if this is the route I need to go.
Thanks

Barrels are screwed in, probably with an interference fit thread. Just using hand dies is no go as the barrel will have to be turned down to the relevant size, also that portion of the barrel is tapered.
Another thing to consider is if you have a full length magazine you will have to shorten that, which will also entail relocating the magazine fixing point.

I've taken that bit apart and that's the easy bit, there is no fixing and the mag tube is just a tube.

Barrel needs to come out, remove the fore end and magazine tube pop the barrel in a barrel vice and use a flat sided action wrench with the bolt in place. I use some 1/16" brass shim and hockey tape either side to protect the finish. They usually come out very easily.

Im curious as to why you want to scew cut it. Do you run it with a scope or the iron sights. If you screwed some thing on the end of the barrel would that not make the iron sights difficult to use.

I can just use the irons over the top of a Jet Z mod, but did need to have a new fore sight base soldered on behind the thread.
