I was advised to be carefull how you go about chopping the chamber section off, as if you don't chop the chamber in half first, and then chop the rest of the chamber off the barrel, you could end up with 1" of barrel and chamber, which is section 5 :)

If you want to scrap a barrel whats the procedure. Does it have to be done by a registered firearms dealer.

My Firearms department is happy for me to own chamber stubs however I always put them in the lathe and machine the threads off after I have chopped them, they are then polished (Because I can) labelled and popped on a shelf in the Armoury to be used as a reference or to confirm fit for guides.

As far as scrapping the barrel off things get a bit confusing, as an FAC holder if you have a variation for a rifle it is for a rifle, not a rifle action so you do have a problem once you remove the barrel regardless of what you do with it. Always best to run that past your FEO. Interestingly our firearms people also ask for a deactivation certificate if you are scrapping a rifle off as an FAC holder whereas I as an RFD can chop the rifle/shotgun and simply drop them an email to say I have received Xyz from Mr Abc and it has now been destroyed. Personally I harvest any usable parts and the rest goes in the scrap bin/stove.
